History of Mother's Day

May 3, 2024

Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had organized women's groups to promote friendship and health, originated Mother's Day. On May 12, 1907, she held a memorial service at her late mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia. Within five years virtually every state was observing the day, and in 1914 U.S. President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday.

Aging Allies celebrates motherhood with a warm heart and understanding the interconnection of physical and mental health as we age in place.

As we enter into the 2024 Hurricane Season, having a plan in place is essential for our Seniors Aging Allies will help with a plan. Having a checklist of important things to plan for such as:

Memorial Day

Memorial Day, a federal holiday held the last Monday in May, is the nation's foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women.

Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a "Memorial Day Order" issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.

The modern proclamation calls on Americans "to observe Memorial Day by praying, according to their individual religious faith, for permanent peace.",John%20A.%20Logan%20in%20186
